The SEAT Center has a multi-faceted mission reflecting a commitment to high quality, outcome-focused assistive technology (AT) service delivery. The Center is engaged in an array of activities with diverse groups who work with people with disabilities. Specific ways in which the SEAT Center addresses its mission include:
- Providing high quality AT services to preservice teachers, professionals in the field, and persons with disabilities and their families.
- Conducting research related to best practices AT service delivery that emphasize outcomes,
- Presenting AT best practices at professional, student, family, and consumer-oriented meetings.
- Collaboration in publishing the only AT outcomes-focused journal in the U.S.
- Publishing best practices information and research in professional journals and other forums.
- Providing specific services for professionals in the field.
- Coordinating and participating in undergraduate and graduate teacher education instruction at Illinois State University and with partners.
- Providing new and ongoing professional development opportunities.
